Efficient Heating and Cooling
Minimize non-renewable energy use across the seasons
SUMMER
Unusually Extreme Summer Days (very hot, or hot and humid)
- High-efficiency Ground Source Heat Exchange cools radiant floor, and cools rooms with southern exposures via air handlers. Irrigation water provides nightly cooling of ground loop used by heat exchanger.
- Solar Heating of domestic hot water.
Regular Summer
- High-efficiency Ground Source Heat Exchange occasionally cools radiant floor. Irrigation water provides nightly cooling of ground loop used by heat exchanger.
- Solar Heating of domestic hot water.
FALL/WINTER/SPRING
Fall and Spring
- Solar Heating provides lukewarm water to radiant floors in house during evenings and nights.
- Solar Heating of domestic hot water.
Regular Winter Febrarury 2009: PRELIMINARY DATA (BOILER ONLY)
- Solar Heating provides lukewarm water to radiant floors in house some of daytime, heat to slab rest of time
- Ground source heat pump provides lukewarm water to radiant floors making up for shortcomings of solar collectors.
- Domestic hot water heated by boiler, condensing heat used to raise slab temperatures.
Unusual Extreme Winter (freezing)
- Solar Heating provides lukewarm water to raise slab temperature
- Boiler heats the radiant floors
- Boiler used to heat water for domestic hot water, and to supply air handlers to heat room air if radiant floors approach their temperature limits.
